Denzel Washington once explained that his name is pronounced Denz-al because he and his father had the same name and would get confused when his mother called one of them. This is probably why he gave his son two conventional names, John and David.

Not that John David Washington lived a conventional life. Instead, he had a career in the NFL before moving on to acting, where he got his big break in the series “Ballers.” He has since starred in many blockbusters, including “BlacKkKlansman,” and Christopher Nolan’s film “Tenet.”
